Bonus Creative Inspiration with a Sketch

Here's this month's sketch:

And here's the project it inspired:

This project combines the Christmas tree imagery in the Pine Tree Trimmings Bundle with Garden Green and Cherry Cobbler to create a classic Christmas card design.

The fir tree image from the Pine Tree Trimmings Photopolymer Stamp Set was stamped twice in the centre of a Basic White layer (4" x 5¼") using Garden Green Classic Stampin' Ink™. The solid tree image from the same stamp set was stamped on Garden Green cardstock, again using Garden Green ink, and cut out using the coordinating die from the Pine Tree Trimmings Dies.

Using additional dies from the same set, a star and two garland elements were cut from Gold Foil Sheets, and adhered to the die-cut tree. The tree element was then added to the centre of the stamped Basic White panel using Stampin' Dimensionals™

The sentiment was stamped on a 3" x ⅝" strip of Cherry Cobbler Cardstock using VersaMark™ Ink, and embossed using white powder from the Basics WOW! Embossing Powder. The embossed strip was adhered across the top of the die-cut tree with Stampin' Dimensionals at each end.

White & Gold Baker's Twine was wrapped around the two opposite corners of the card panel, and tied in a bow at the top left corner. The completed panel was then added to a folded Cherry Cobbler card base. Iridescent Foiled Gems were added as the final embellishments.

The North Pole Delivery 12" x 12" Specialty Designer Series Paper includes 2 sheets of single-sided die-cut printed elements, which make creating cards with this cute suite even easier as you don't even need to cut them out yourself!

The postage stamp rectangle was die cut from Basic White Cardstock using the second largest die from the Perennial Postage Dies. The sentiment, from the Jolly Delivery Photopolymer Stamp Set, was stamped using Tuxedo Black Memento™ Ink in the bottom right-hand corner of the die cut. A length of Real Red & White Baker's Twine was looped around the top of the die cut, and tied in a bow in the top right-hand corner. The rectangle was then added to a folded Pool Party card base at an angle using Stampin' Dimensionals™.

Four of the larger envelope elements were taken from the paper pack's die cut sheets. Two envelopes were adhered directly to the white layer (the first and third in the line), and then the other two added using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Last Order Date for Christmas Delivery

As you may or may not know I had been away travelling for several weeks. I hit the road on the last week of September and returned mid-November. While the time away from home was both exciting ( as in dodging 2 hurricanes) and relaxing (playing a few rounds of golf in Myrtle Beach and Florida) it is nice to be home again.  But it also feels like Christmas is just around the corner and I haven't even finished my travel laundry yet!  I am also trying to catch up on your emails, phone messages and sending out your newsletters. Here's hoping your Christmas planning is going better than mine.

The Christmas season is a busy time of year for sending and receiving packages so shipping may take longer than normal in the coming weeks. Due to the current Canada Post labour strike, the carriers used (UPS and FedEX) are also currently dealing with higher service volumes which could result in extended delivery times. Please submit any online orders you wish to receive in time for Christmas by Wednesday, December 11th. Although Stampin' Up! cannot guarantee that these orders will arrive before Christmas, best efforts will be made to ship orders as quickly as possible.

The Reindeer Days Suite Collection includes classic Christmas colours and cute reindeer imagery, making it easy for you to create magical winter projects.

A 2" x 5" strip of the Real Red and Basic White patterned paper from the Reindeer Days 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper was layered on Real Red Cardstock, and adhered to the left-hand side of a folded Pool Party card base to form the background element.

The image of two reindeer from the Reindeer Fun Photopolymer Stamp Set was stamped on Basic White Cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento™ Ink, and colour added using Crumb Cake, Pecan Pie, and Petal Pink Stampin' Blends. The coloured image was then cut out using the coordinating die from the Reindeer Fun Dies. The third smallest die from the Countryside Corners die was used to create a Basic White label shape for the reindeer image to be adhered to. The label element was then added to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

The "Merry Christmas" sentiment, also from the Reindeer Fun Photopolymer Stamp Set, was stamped on a ½" x 3½" strip of Garden Green Cardstock using VersaMark™ Ink and embossed with White Embossing Powder (from the Basics WOW! Embossing Powder set). The right end of the strip was cut to a flag shape using Paper Snips, and the strip added to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

The holly leaves and berries were die cut from Garden Green and Real Red Cardstock respectively, using the dies from the Reindeer Fun set. The edges of the holly leaves were inked using a Sponge Dauber and Garden Green Classic Stampin' Ink to add depth. The leaves were added to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals and the berries adhered to the center of the leaves using Mini Glue Dots™. Iridescent Faceted Gems were added as the final embellishments.

Send a wagon full of festive fun with the Filled With Cheer Stamp Set, a new addition to our Online Exclusive Collection that also coordinates with the Filled With Fun Dies from March's product release.

The snowman image from the Filled with Cheer Cling Stamp Set was stamped using Tuxedo Black Memento™ Ink on a Basic White Cardstock panel. The image was coloured using Stampin' Blends (Crumb Cake, Misty Moonlight, Mossy Meadow, Peach Pie, and Petunia Pop). The wagon and wheel images were stamped on Crumb Cake Cardstock using Early Espresso Classic Stampin' Ink and cut out using the coordinating dies from the Filled with Fun Dies. The wheels were first adhered to the wagon die cut, and then the completed wagon element adhered to the stamped panel. A torn strip of Basic White Cardstock was added at the bottom of the panel, slightly overlapping with the wagon's wheels, to imitate snow. Linen thread was wrapped around the panel and tied in a bow. The stamped panel was then adhered to a Petunia Pop Cardstock mat.

A panel of the confetti patterned paper from the Iconic Imagery 6" x 6" (15.2 x 15.2 cm) Designer Series Paper was adhered to the bottom of the front of a Misty Moonlight folded card base. The completed stamped panel was adhered over the top using Stampin' Dimensionals. The sentiment was stamped on a strip of Crumb Cake Cardstock using Early Espresso ink, and the right edge cut at an angle. The stamped strip was adhered to the top left of the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals. Single Pearl Adhesive-Backed Berries were added to the stamped layer as final embellishments.

Christmas Colour Inspiration

Here's this month's colour combination:

And here's the project it inspired:

September might be too early for Christmas for some people, but as crafters we know the earlier we start the more likely it is we'll be done in time! This card uses classic colours to send a simple festive greeting.

A strip of Distressed Gold 12" x 12" Specialty Paper was mounted on a wider Shaded Spruce Cardstock strip, and adhered to a Cherry Cobbler Cardstock layer. The "Noel" image from the Joy of Noel Photopolymer Stamp Set was stamped in Shaded Spruce Classic Ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock and cut out using the largest tag die from the Tailor Made Tags Dies. The tag was added to the Cherry Cobbler Cardstock layer, with the bottom of the tag layered over the Distressed Gold strip and raised up using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Four evergreen branches were die cut from Shaded Spruce Cardstock using the foliage die from the coordinating Joy of Noel Dies. Starting from the left hand side, the four die cut branches were layered to form an arc in the top left corner of the Cherry Cobbler Cardstock layer, arranging it so that the arc overlapped with the top of the tag. The top of the card was trimmed to remove any of the last die cut that was left overhanging. Gold Festive Pearls were added to the branches as a final embellishment, and the whole card front was adhered to a Shaded Spruce card base.

December Colour Inspiration

Creative Inspiration with a Colour Combination

Reach for the Seasonal Labels Dies if you need some last minute tags for Christmas gifting this December. Layering multiple die cuts gives you lots of flexibility with layouts. These fun shapes will really step up your wrapped presents!

Foliage and pine cone elements were stamped with the Christmas Season Photopolymer Stamp Set using Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, and Real Red Classic Ink, and die cut using the coordinating dies from the Seasonal Labels Dies. Extra texture was added to the Garden Green tag using one of the Wintry 3D Embossing Folders. You don't have to limit yourself to Christmas patterned paper for festive projects; the He's the Man Designer Series Paper was used for some of the label layers in two of these tags. The sentiments used are from the Christmas to Remember Cling Stamp Set. To finish off each tag, ribbon from the Real Red & Garden Green ⅜" (1 cm) Ribbon Combo Pack was added to the top.

Milk Carton Treat Boxes

I've been playing around in my studio lately trying to come up with this year's treat boxes for my craft fairs. Every year I sell out of these treat boxes as they make great gifts for teachers, bus drivers and coaches.  I design them so a gift card fits nicely into the box as well as some candy or chocolate.  I was trying to find a milk carton design for this year but couldn't find one that would work for me.  I felt a little like Goldilocks as 1 was too small, another was just a little too big but also required a 12 X 12 piece of cardstock, which cut into my color choices.  Turns out I was going to have to do some math and come up with my own size. HERE'S WHAT I CAME UP WITH!

Treat Box Instructions

   Here's what you'll need:

1.  On the long side of your cardstock score at 2 1/2, 5, 7 1/2, and 10 inches.
Score short side at 2 1/2, 5 and 7 inches.

2. Trim as shown being careful to keep the 3/4" seam at the top of the cardstock.
Cut along bottom score lines on 10 1/2 " side.

3.  Burnish all score lines.

4.  Find mid point of 2nd and 4th 3/4" blocks and score down to 1st score line.  From that point on the score line score additional lines diagonally to 2nd score line, creating a scored triangle as shown.

5.  Use Tear & Tape or another adhesive to attach sides together to form box.

6.  Glue   4 DSP pieces to center blocks and the 2 smaller DSP to blocks without scored triangles.

7.  Fold in the 4 bottom panels and glue the bottom in place. (I glued all 4 panels to each other as I folded.

8.  Sit box on it's bottom and fold in the top of the carton pushing into the triangles to create milk carton shape.

9.  With top closed mark 2 spots for ribbon placement.  Create holes with Crop A Dial or other hole punch.

10.  Thread ribbon through holes and tie.

11.  Attach scalloped circles or other embellishments to finish box.

Finished!  Don't forget the candy!
